Microsoft is about to add a few new channels to their streaming video services, but the biggest name in the list isn’t as complete as it probably should be.
If you want to stream your Xbox One games for the world to enjoy you getting killed over and over again in Titanfall, Twitch.TV is your only option. For the most part, Twitch on the Xbox One works well. You can have it floating in the side snap bar to see the chat window as it comes by, or you can collapse it entirely and just play as though nothing as happening.
If you’re into Twitch it’s pretty cool, but there are other options out there and Microsoft would do well to offer alternatives. It was suspected for a while that YouTube streaming would be an option at some point, but Microsoft’s announcement reveals the app will only be for uploading clips from Upload Studio and watching existing YouTube content.

According to the Xbox blog, YouTube and GoPro both have been added to the lineup for your streaming media goodies for the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One. The YouTube App for the One will include social sharing options and Google account tie-ins, but no live streaming to be found anywhere. You’ll be able to take clips and upload them to Youtube in the same way you would through a third party HDMI capture tool, but so far it looks like the app won’t do much else. This app could certainly be updated in the future to support streaming but for now you’ll probably just use it to watch your YouTube channel of choice, which is always nice to have.
