The LynxFit team has created an impressive concept to show what is possible when Google Glass is allowed to interact with other systems for a workout regiment.
In a world filled with fitness bands, pedometers, workout routine apps, and Nike’s ever-growing partnership with Apple, you have to do something special in order to stand out right now. It feels almost like everything that can be done is being done, as companies struggle to maintain cost and development cycles in order to keep up with the increasing demands of users. As a result, when someone mentions fitness apps for Google Glass it is easy to roll your eyes and see that there’s not really anything special with the app itself. For the second time now, Noble Ackerson and LynxFit have demonstrated that fitness through Google Glass can be a unique and useful experience. Unlike last time, however, LynxFit is bringing Google’s Chromecast along for the ride.
At $35, there really aren’t too many reasons to avoid Google’s streaming stick. Despite their odd closed-door approach right now, Chromecast support has found a way into several popular apps, and that list promises to grow on a regular basis. LynxFit plans to incorporate Chromecast streaming into their not-yet-public Google Glass app, making it so the demo that would normally be playing on Glass itself is now playing on your television. This allows Glass to conserve battery power by keeping the display off, which also allows the hardware to better track your movements. Lynxfit sets itself apart from the crowd by being able to show you how well you have done in a particular exercise, and demonstrate improved or decreased results over time.
This concept is a little ahead of its time, as Google has not yet allowed third party developers to casually release Chromecast support, but the use of Google Glass and a Chromecast in this concept is nothing short of impressive.
