While Titanfall may be grabbing everyone’s Xbox One time this week, Plants Vs Zombies: Garden Warfare has proven itself an incredibly enjoyable title. Unfortunately, the DLC that was released today for the game has left players in the middle of broken levels and terribly crashy servers.
There was more than a little skepticism when EA announced that the popular mobile game Plants vs Zombies was getting a first person shooter variant. Garden Warfare was not exactly met with critical acclaim, but the game has proven itself to be immensely entertaining. A DLC that was slated for launch today promised to add new weapons, new abilities, new game types, and more levels for everyone to enjoy. What they got instead was a game that feels like something from the early days of online PC gaming.
If you manage to get into a game at all right now, there seems to be a 50/50 chance that you’ll be booted out seconds after the match starts. Matchmaking is taking significantly longer for the games that actually work as a result, and the games that make it all the way to the end are plagued with visual failure after visual failure. Entire fields of grass fail to render, opponents rubber band all over the place, and the scenery stopped being destructible at some points. There’s no other way to say it, the game is just broken.
EA is more than aware of the problem, and has been updating the PvsZ Twitter account regularly to reassure everyone that they are working on it. As the first real DLC for an EA title on the Xbox One, this is not the best way to reassure everyone that the company is on the ball when it comes to updates.
