It’s just about time for Motorola to release a successor to its incredibly cool but not particularly successful flagship smartphone. It’s apparently going to be called the Moto X+1, and like its predecessor there will be some unique options for the rear casing.
The Moto X is an entirely unique critter in the smartphone world, thanks to its having features that — nearly a year later –*can’t be found elsewhere. The active display, voice controls, and gesture system packed inside a comparably small phone that offers battery life the other flagships are only just now starting to compete with. Motorola took what looked on paper like a mid-range smartphone and made it competitive with the other big names on the playing field. It looks like Moto is going to do it again with a sequel that hopefully offers more of the same cool features.
According to EVLeaks, whose record over the past year has been near oracular when it comes to smartphone technology, the new phone is going to be called the Moto X+1… but that’s almost all we know so far. Motorola has to have been working on this phone for quite a while, so this phone will have existed in the same format the original did. Any concerns that the recent and incomplete Lenovo merger might have any influence wouldn’t yet be a factor, so as far as anyone knows this phone will be 100% Motorola and designed to be the next iteration of this feature set.
The only other bit of information he have so far on this phone is about the customization that will almost certainly be a part of this next phone. The Moto X is available in many different colors and textures, even several different types of wood backing. The X+1 is expected to come with leather alternatives, and unlike Samsung’s faux leather that is actually plastic we can expect Motorola to deliver at least a couple shades of actual leather.
If Motorola can pull off an even more incredible phone than its predecessor, the Moto X+1 should be a lot of fun up against the HTC One M8 and the Samsung Galaxy S5.
