We’ve all been waiting to hear about new Motorola equipment, and it looks like the wait is nearly over. Moto sent out invites to a press event in Chicago this morning, and if the invitation itself is any hint there’s going to be a ton of new gear from Moto announced on September 3rd.
Motorola has a lot of people waiting not-so-patiently to throw money at their screens. Whether it’s the highly anticipated Android Wear device or the successor to the Moto X, or even a continuation of their attempt to upset the inexpensive smartphone ecosystem, refresh buttons are being pressed around the world. With the teaser phrase “every choice is a new adventure” across the invitation, it’s clear we’re getting quite the list of tech on September 4th.
The launch window for the Moto 360, which is easily the most impressive of the Android Wear devices we have seen so far, closes at the end of the summer. Motorola is cutting it a little close by making the official launch date September 4th, but that will be the day we learn about the final feature list and more importantly the price tag. The Moto 360 is expected to be more expensive than the LG G Watch and the Samsung Gear Live, but we still don’t know by how much just yet.
Motorola’s Moto X is a fantastic phone that didn’t sell particularly well, but that isn’t stopping the company*from trying again. The Moto X+1 has been teased and leaked for some time now, and it is expected to be slightly larger than the original Moto X and have quite a bit of cool hardware under the hood. Right now we are expecting a 5.2-inch 1080p display with a 12MP camera on the back that is packing a unique flash ring around the sensor. The Snapdragon 800 is expected to drive an improved suite of voice command and active display features, as well as offer some of the same impressive battery stats we saw with the original.
We still don’t know if the Moto X+1 is expected to be similar to the heavily rumored Nexus 6, or if there will be Droid branded versions of this phone for Verizon Wireless like we saw with the original Moto X. The Moto X+1 only takes up one corner of the announcement, but it is surely to be one of the more interesting parts of Motorola’s presentation.
The Moto G was a surprisingly popular phone last year, released by Motorola in order to enter the budget phone market with a device that wasn’t just last year’s technology. The Moto G has done well because it is fast, cheap, and available in many countries around the world. In order to improve on this experience, Motorola will have had to made the battery even more impressive. It probably also wouldn’t hurt to have a front facing camera this time around, but we’ll see what they come up with soon enough.
Finally, the bottom left-hand corner of the fortune teller in the invitation has a Bluetooth headset. Motorola has a history of delivering fantastic Bluetooth hardware, but to be announced in the same way that the Moto 360 and Moto X+1 are being announced probably means that this accessory is a little smarter than the others. It wouldn’t be surprising to find that Motorola has made a Bluetooth headset that is always listening for the “OK Google Now” command in order to offer an even better hands-free experience while in the car.
If history is any indicator, there will likely be a livestream of the event for everyone to enjoy. September 4th isn’t far away at all, and with any luck the shipping date for all of this hardware will be immediately after.
