When Apple launched the plastic and colorful iPhone 5C, you would be forgiven for thinking the lower-cost device might overshadow the higher priced iPhone 5S. But according to a report from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (via All Things D), the allure of a cheaper iPhone hasn't slowed down sales of Cupertino's new flagship smartphone.

The CIRP report claims the iPhones 5S accounted for 64 percent of Apple's U.S. iPhone sales in September, while only 27 percent is attributed to the iPhone 5C. The iPhone 4S--now free with a two-year mobile contract--earned nine percent of total U.S. sales during the same period.
Granted, these numbers from CIRP are somewhat restrictive. After all, the purported sales figures only cover September, and the new iPhone models didn't hit shelves until September 20. Still, the iPhone has historically moved a ton of units in its first weekend, and there's no denying the two-to-one margin the iPhone 5S is moving over its $99 cousin.
