Without a doubt the champion of Black Friday last year was Amazon. The company kept a lot of people glued to their computers and out of stores, which is obviously not ideal for the competition. Wal-Mart has stepped up their game this year with deal strategies both online and in-store that clearly demonstrate how the retail giant plans to win back Black Friday.
The big draw for every Black Friday sale are, of course, the “doorbuster” deals. However, what Wal-Mart has done to keep shopping strong throughout the day is establish specific times of the day for certain specials. Amazon shoppers will recognize this tactic from Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping experiences, but Wal-Mart is one of the first to deploy it in stores. On top of this, each Wal-Mart is now authorized to create Manager’s Specials, which are different for each store and can only be found on their local store’s Facebook page.
There are still plenty of normal rush-in-and-shop specials. The AT&T and Verizon Wireless variants of the iPhone 5C and 5S, for example, are available for $45 and $189 respectively but include a $75 gift card with your purchase of a new two-year agreement. If your tastes lean more towards Android, the Samsung Galaxy S4 will be available for $99 with a $100 gift card upon activation on a new two-year agreement.
If you’re interested in gaming consoles, the 4GB version of the Xbox 360 will be available for $99 while the 16GB version of the PS3 will be available for $149.
If you’re in the mood for something portable, the Nintendo 2DS will also be available in store for $99. All of these consoles will have game sales for many older titles down to $10, with popular new titles like Grand Theft Auto 5 for $34. Skylanders Swap Force and Disney Infinity will have their starter kits marked down to $38.96.
If you’re shopping for something a little less gadget and a little more home oriented, Wal-Mart is making the Keurig K70 system available for $169 with a $20 gift card. If coffee and tea isn’t your thing, the SodaStream Mega Bonus Kit is going to be available for $79 with a $10 gift card. Cartridges and flavors for both beverage systems will also be on sale.
If you’ve decided you’d rather avoid leaving the house altogether, Wal-Mart promises to have completely separate deals available on their website throughout the shopping event. These include an Xbox 360 bundle with a controller for $139, a Samsung 40-inch LED TV for $379, and an iPad 2 bundle for $349.
