I've been really craving a book that makes me think. A book that gives me a different perspective on a subject.

I am currently reading a book that changes my perspective on life, where you priorities should be in life and what doesn't matter in the end.

The name of the book is "The Last Lecture" and it's a true story about a man who is dying of cancer with 3 very young kids. And it's about a lecture he gave, with two purposes. To make himself known, to be remembered. But it was also filmed for his kids when they get older. Since he won't be there to teach them all the things a father should teach his kids. It's a very good book so far. Short easy read.

Here is a powerful paragraph I found about the book.
"Randy’s lecture has become a phenomenon, as has the book he wrote based on the same principles, celebrating the dreams we all strive to make realities. Sadly, Randy lost his battle to pancreatic cancer on July 25th, 2008, but his legacy will continue to inspire us all, for generations to come."

But anyways. Does anyone have any good books that fit in this category?

i dont read much but ive heard twilight was good i dont know if it will change youre life any tho and also ive heard steven king had a series of books that was great but idk if they fit into the catagory because i dont read much.

I would say the Pact. its really famous amongst young adults in NJ, i have yet to read it, waiting for right time but from what i heard its really good. Its about 3 teenage friends from Newark, NJ( one of most dangerous cities in America) and made a pact in HS. i really dont want to give everything away. I read first 3 chapter while i was waiting for other students to finish when i was doing state tests. I was really hooked on quick.

Man Search For Mean by Victor Frankl, i read it in my English 101 class. It's a very intense book and it's about WW2 in the concentration camp. i tihnk i spelled the authors name correctly.

ahh another favorite book of mines is called Night. Its about a bboy that had to go thru the concentration camps, getting tricked, witnessing death and not knowing where his family was. His book had a special on Oprah.

Maybe you mean "The Dark Tower" series? I heard that they were really awesome and it is very popular among fans of the show LOST.

Murf I read a book called "Hot, Flat, and Crowded" by Thomas Friedman, and it's about where the world is headed if we don't all act now and together to turn things around (focuses on global warming, globalization and overpopulation) very powerful stuff, but very long and kinda dry too.

Anyway, a while back I was gonna make a thread about MOVIES that had a significant impact on my life, but it seems like they might fit here too

(I am not trying to Shanghai your thread or anything). A few movies that totally changed the way I looked at youth and living life:

- "Dazed and Confused": I know it sounds like a joke, but there is a scene where one of the jock guy is laying on the football field and he gives this speech about "doing the most I could while I was stuck in this place" and it really stood out to me. Also the rest of the movie with all the late night parties was awesom too lol.

- "The Girl Nexxxt Door": Well not the whole movie lol, but in the beginning the main character is writing about "what he will always remember" from high school, and he realizes he hasn't done shit with some of the best years of his life. Just kinda makes you want to get your ass in gear and live it up while you still can.

- "Ferris Bueller's Day Off": School is important, but this moviie always reminds me to just say funk it every once in a while and have fun.

this isnt a related book, but "Out into the Wild" by John Krakauer, was really good. it is also a movie (have yet to see it) and is a real life story. its about a young man, who decides to abandon everything to live in the wilderness of Alaska. i bet some of you have heard of it though.

also interested i looked up "Into Thin Air" by him. they are little sort but good books

yeah into the wild was a great movie. But the book is prolly even better cause most books are. Right now I'm reading A Seperate Peace, it's not the best book I read but the book gets intellectual about the characters, it's a good read and you would prolly take something away from it if you read it. It's about these two prep school boys takes place in Phillips Exeter Academy which Is kinda cool for me cause I live in the same town as this private school. But yeah I say give this a read sorry I rambled on... Cpt you should make that post

Murf. Im sure we all know abot Anne Frank. Im not sure if you have read the book. But it is truely amazing. If you want a next book to read. The Diary Of Anne Frank. Of course true story. Changes your thinking in a way you wouldnt think of. Awesome overall.

I've been to the Anne Frank house in Amsterdam, it was prety cool how they had like a secret door and stuff. And yeah that book is good too.

Ok, if the list you made is with books you plan on reading....Night isn't all that great. I read it not long ago, and its a really short book. Like, its good while it lasts, but he could've went into wayyy more detail, he skipped around too much, and ended the book stupidly

ive read all of Dan Brown's books, and theyre pretty awesome.

Deception Point being my favorite.

I recently read the Maximum Ride series by James Paterson, and it was wierd but i couldnt put it down.

I guess the books i read are maybe a few years below what youd want, idk
