It was a battle at a town called Puebla where the Mexican people were largely outnumbered almost 2:1 by the French army whom had not lost a battle in almost 50 years.
the actual war (if you would even call it that, it really was more of an occupation) wasn't over for another 5 years.
And, the Mexican War for Independence was an entirely different War fought against the Spanish (from Spain...) sometime around 1820ish ( i forget the exact date)
