DICE says that the netcode is a top priority for the developer, and that they are working to fix the recent issues.
Over the past week, we’ve seen plenty of videos showing just how horrible the Battlefield 4 netcode is. Players will empty a magazine at an enemy, only to have none of the hits to register (and get killed in return). Or the more common situation where a player goes behind cover, but due to the netcode and lag, is killed behind cover (see the video below and the GIF above for an example).
Now the developer has for the first time responded to the netcode situation, with DICE’s Gustav Halling saying that the “netcode issues I’ve seen in a few videos is a top priority”, and added that that they are working on it.
Last week, after tons of complaints about the game crashing and freezing (which is still going on), DICE released a short statement saying that they are working on a Battlefield 4 patch to fix the crashes.
We’re not sure if the upcoming patch will include both netcode optimization and crash fixes. The netcode is notoriously difficult to change and fix, and it took several patches for BF3 before its issues were resolved. By comparison the netcode in Battlefield 4 is even worse, but at least it’s confirmed that DICE are aware of the issues and are working on it.
DICE has released several server patches since launch, the last one just a few days ago, which is supposed to fix the server crash issues. Battlelog has also been updated several times since launch, the last gone going live today.
These issues are likely due to EA pushing Battlefield 4 through quality control, in order to beat Call of Duty to the market.
