If you’re a fan of great big robots in video games, get ready to have some fun with the Hammond Robotics viral campaign for Titanfall.
There’s a lot of reasons to be excited about EA’s Titanfall. For the uninitiated, it’s a futuristic military-esque combat game where you spend what appears to be equal time in and out of massive mechs called Titans. From the gameplay teasers we have seen so far, everything about the game looks exciting. In first person mode, you’ve got some wicked movement mechanics thanks to a jetpack on your back, and when you’re tired of being the same size as everyone else on the field, you can have your large metal war machine dropped in from orbit to help you out.
Unfortunately, the game has been delayed a little bit. What was once the big exclusive for Xbox One fans has been pushed back to early next year, and is now going to be available for PC as well. These aren’t bad things necessarily, especially since now it looks like a viral marketing campaign has been created for the game. It starts with a promotional video for a new kind of Titan made by a company called Hammond Robotics, who now has a website with a login page and a phone number (1-888-88TITAN) that you can call as though you were going to speak to a representative from the company.
This is a fun distraction from not having the game, and it will do a good job getting people excited, but there’s more that could be done with Titanfall that hopefully gets addressed in the meantime. There were whispers of Oculus Rift support as well as the potential for cross-platform gameplay — both of which would be amazing polish points for what already looks like one of the most exciting games of the new generation.
