There were some who thought that Jony Ive’s Mac Pro redesign looked a lot like a fancy trash can turned upside down. Clearly the DIYer who built this hackintosh thought so.
The modder, who goes by sascha288, started his custom rig with a trip to Amazon.de to pick up the €27 LUNAR bin from Authentics. He spent another €33 on other parts, like the perforated metal used on the system’s top and rear panels.
Based on the screenshot sascha shared, overheating isn’t an issue for the Hack Pro. All the critical components hover around 25 degrees idle, so while the rig’s interior is clearly not as meticulously designed as Apple’s original, he did a good job making sure things stay cool.

What keeps the air moving? This awesome hand-built unit. It looks a lot like the Mac Pro’s upper exhaust fan, but it’s bottom-mounted in Sascha’s PC.
Sascha’s goal wasn’t to match the Mac Pro in terms of raw power. Nevertheless, the Intel Core i3 processor and AMD Radeon 7750 video card would suffice for most home PC users. Startup times should be respectable, too, thanks to the Samsung SSD, and 2.5-inch HDD provides additional room for file storage.
His system probably isn’t as quiet either, but then there’s no way he even came close to spending $3,000 on it… and he probably had a heck of a good time building it. Fitting components that were designed for rectangular PC cases into a cylindrical form isn’t the simplest mod you can undertake, but it must be satisfying when it turns out this well.
