Some surprising results.
By Luke KarmaliAmazon has released figures for how Gamescom affected its pre-orders, revealing Project CARS as a surprise winner.
MCV*reports the upcoming racing game seems set to hold its own among stiff competition from the likes of Driveclub, Forza Horizon 2 and The Crew, while Nintendo Wii U titles also saw a strong showing despite being the only company that didn't hold a press conference.
Wii U games across the board saw pre-orders rise 8.67 percent, while PS4 and Xbox One had 5.16 percent and 2.81 percent rises respectively. Of course if the number was lower in the first place, it's worth noting fewer pre-orders need to happen in order to generate a bigger spike in percentage.
That's probably why Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare didn't make the top 10, despite Activision's news that anyone who pre-orders will get access 24-hours early. Presumably most fans are already way ahead of the curve on that one. The other big winner was Rise of the Tomb Raider, likely thanks to all the column and blog inches generated by Microsoft's shock exclusivity announcement. Check out the full list of percentage increases here:

  • Project CARS (Slightly Mad Studios) 42.3 percent increase
  • Rise of the Tomb Raider (Square Enix) 30.25 percent increase
  • Bloodborne (Sony) 16.08 percent increase
  • Hyrule Warriors (Nintendo) 11.77 percent increase
  • Quantum Break (Microsoft) 10.77 percent increase
  • Far Cry 4 (Ubisoft) 9.53 percent increase
  • Assassin's Creed Unity (Ubisoft) 9.44 percent increase
  • Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor (Warner Bros) 9.03 percent increase
  • Battlefield: Hardline (EA) 8.81 percent increase
  • Super Smash Bros for 3DS (Nintendo) 7.56 percent increase
