The PlayStation 4's newly announced support for video capture via HDMI will not be available at the system's launch, Sony has announced.
Responding to a question on Twitter about when HDMI capture support would be available, Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida indicated it will be patched in at some point after launch. He provided no additional details, giving no indication as to how long PS4 owners would have to wait for the patch.
The announcement of the feature during Sony's Tokyo Game Show keynote was fairly low-key. Sony's Brad Douglas said on Twitter after the event that details would be coming soon, though whether those details will include word on the patch's expected date remains to be seen.
Allowing HDMI video capture is an improvement over the PlayStation 3, which disallowed the functionality, forcing gamers to concoct workarounds involving component cables.
