Nokia has unveiled the Windows RT 8.1-based Lumia 2520 tablet. Featuring a 10.1-inch full HD display, the device shares many similarities with Microsoft's recently announced Surface 2--no surprise given the recent acquisition of Nokia's mobile branch. But as is the case with Nokia's other mobile devices, you can find a decent upgrade in terms of camera quality on the company's first Windows tablet.

Whereas the Surface 2 has jumped on Nvidia's Tegra 4 processor train, the Lumia 2520 is packing a 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800. The rear-facing 6.7 megapixel camera offers an f1.9 aperture, and the system's photo software offers deep level adjustments, akin to Nokia's Lumia smartphones. 4G LTE arrives standard, and according to The Verge, it appears mobile service will be available from both AT&T and Verizon.
The capacitive touch display is reinforced with Gorilla Glass 2, and according to Nokia, will create "less reflection than other tablets in the marketplace." While we haven't seen the Lumia 2520 in person yet, it's probably worth noting the video released by Nokia today seems to present apparent screen glare. The front of the device is also flanked by a 2MP camera.
Much like the Surface 2, the Lumia 2520 will also accept a keyboard cover--the Nokia Power Keyboard--with a touchpad and USB ports. The keyboard provides five hours of additional battery life, complementing the 8000 mAh internal battery which is said to provide 10 hours of video playback on a single charge. The Lumia 2520 is only available in a 32GB storage option--upgradeable via microSD--but you'll have a choice between red or black (at Verizon), or just black (AT&T) finishes.
The Nokia Lumia 2520 will retail for $499 in North America, the UK, and Finland in the fourth quarter. Nokia has said the tablet will appear in other markets at a later date.
