It’s not unusual to hear an executive from one company verbally bash a competitor’s product. When it comes to the heated rivalry between LG and Samsung, however, sometimes words aren’t enough. Sometimes, apparently, a good physical bashing gets dished out.
With IFA in full swing right now, representatives from the world’s tech giants have descended upon Berlin to show off their latest innovations. Samsung’s there talking up the Galaxy Note 4 and oddball Note Edge, and LG’s in town with its*fancy, round Android Wear watch.
You can’t just hang around the show floor, though. You’ve got to get out and see the sights — sights like the* SATURN store at the Berlin Europa-Center mall, where you can browse and buy appliances made by Samsung. Or, if you prefer, you can just slink around and vandalize them like an LG executive did. He’s been caught on closed-circuit TV damaging the doors on four Samsung washing machines.
Presumably it’s a brutish attempt to convince SATURN shoppers that Samsung’s appliances are terrible that they should buy something else instead. Something like a nice, sturdy LG, for example.
Cameras don’t lie, but the exec denies any wrongdoing. LG’s PR department has his back, too, saying he “was only checking Samsung’s washing machines as their doors were shaking.” They also add that this is “just one of those common incidents that occur ahead of electronics shows.”
That certainly doesn’t read like a corporate smokescreen, does it? It might be easier to believe if a group LG employees hadn’t been spotted at another SATURN location in Berlin vandalizing more Samsung product. They were caught on camera too, but they were probably just “investigating” shaky doors or flimsy flip-phone and laptop hinges… right?
