Apple changed course from past iPhone launches twice last week. First, they announced the lower-cost, plastic iPhone 5C to replace the iPhone 5. And secondly, they didn't offer pre-orders for the flagship iPhone 5S. According to an*anonymous source*at a U.S. carrier speaking to Reuters,*pre-orders for the iPhone 5C aren't painting a promising forecast.

The source--who is connected to a U.S. mobile carrier--claims supplies of both devices will be limited when the iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S launch on Friday. But in the case of the lower-cost iPhone 5C, pre-order interest is "not overwhelming."
The news follows another report earlier this week, which claims that Apple's flagship smartphone, the iPhone 5S, will be exceptionally short supply come Friday's U.S. launch. Given both rumors, it seems that carriers could experience significant shortages of Apple's high-end model and a surplus of its colorful new variant.
