Sony has updated their uniquely designed Xperia Z line for the third time today, bringing with it a slimmer profile and updated software to compliment the water resistant build. The big feature, however, is the ability to ditch your PS Vita and use the Xperia Z3 as a Remote Play client for your PS4.
Sony has always gone the extra mile to make sure their smartphones have a great look and feel on top of unique features for the other devices in the Sony arsenal, but we so rarely get to see these devices in the US. Most of the time, Xperia phones show up months after they are released internationally, and by then there’s usually something imperceptibly better on the market to consider. Not this time, though. The Xperia Z3 is headed to the states, and it is bringing with it a new app to drive PS4 owners wild.

Resting comfortably on the home screen of the Xperia Z3 is the PlayStation app. When used alone, you have the ability to control your PS4 without the need for a remote. The Android app allows users some basic controls and even screen mirroring as long as you are in a touch-friendly app or game. When combined with the special DualShock 4 dock, however, the phone becomes a portable handheld that can play PS4 games via Remote Play in the exact same way that the PS Vita does. This likely has a lot to do with the 2.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 under the hood, and will make the phone an invaluable asset to any Sony fan.
Aside form being a great accessory for your PS4, the Xperia Z3 is also a fantastic phone. Sony is promising two days of battery life with the 3100mAh battery, and on top of that the 20.7MP camera is expected to surpass the already fantastic Z2 in every way. As long as you can get over the aluminum frame with glass on the front and back being a terrible drop risk, the phone looks more than ready to offer a great experience.

There’s no current pricing or release date for the Z3, but T-Mobile has been confirmed as one of the US carriers for the device. Sony has delivered another impressive experience with the Z3, especially with how fast the phone feels and how comfortable it is to hold, and now there’s a good chance the US markets will actually start to lean towards Sony a little.
