It’s a week full of rumors and beta tests, so we dedicated an episode to talking about some of the great things happening all around us. Welcome to the Geekout!
The shift from winter to spring in the US means weeks of smartphone chatter for those of you who are fans of Mobile World Congress. This year is shaping up to be a huge event thanks to expected presentations from LG, Motorola, and Samsung. Unlike the others, Samsung’s presentation had a great big teaser on it leading everyone to believe that the Galaxy S5 is right around the corner. Combined with the rumors surrounding the HTC M8 that is expected to act as successor to the HTC One, there’s plenty to be excited about.
LG’s quirky but huge G Flex stopped by for a brief visit, and not a lot about the phone has changed since it was first announced. The phone is more like a great science experiment than a great phone, but the new LG elements are fun to play with. The rear key button system with volume rockers and power button on the back create a unique experience for those of us who enjoy large phones, while the general curve of the phone feels nice against your face or in your pocket. It’s technology that will likely be a lot more interesting once they figure out how to make it a little smaller and the screen quality a lot better, so for now we can all sit back and enjoy LG being different for the sake of progress.
If you’ve been waiting in line for your chance to check out In-Game Streaming on Steam, we took a look at it this week and talked about it a bit during the Geekout. Be sure to check the site tomorrow for the full write-up on how the service works in ideal situations as well as deliberately complicated ones.
Our app of the week is a throwback to one of the greatest games ever made. While everyone is out there banging their heads in frustration at Flappy Bird, we checked out Pac-Man Championship Edition. This $3.99 game on Android and $2.99 game on iOS and Windows Phone is a fantastic twist on the classic game that guarantees to be more challenging and a great deal more entertaining.
