Zenimax would really like you to purchase a copy of Wolfenstein: The New Order at launch, so it has sweetened the pre-order deal by offering access to the Doom Beta. That news back in February surely increased pre-orders for the game significantly, but it turns out Doom Beta access is somewhat restricted.
The Doom Beta FAQ on the Wolfenstein website has made it clear that access to the beta will only be offered on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Wolfenstein is being released for all three of those platforms, but also for the PS3 and Xbox 360. So what happens if you pre-ordered the game for one of those current-gen consoles?

According to the FAQ, PS3 owners will be offered access to the Doom Beta on PS4. Xbox 360 owners will, as you probably guessed, gain access via Xbox One. If you don’t own either next-gen machine, then you’re out of luck.
It seems likely that if you pre-order on PS3 or Xbox 360 you probably don’t have one of the newer consoles, meaning the Doom Beta offer becomes useless to you. Of course, you may be about to upgrade, but then surely you’d want to play Wolfenstein on PS4 or Xbox One instead, right?
Wolfenstein: The New Order is set to launch on May 20. However, the Doom Beta has no set launch date yet, and there’s very little known about it. It could come months after Wolfenstein’s release, or it could be a launch day thing (unlikely). Clearly pre-ordering it as a current-gen console gamer is pretty pointless, though, if your reason for doing so is securing a chance to play Doom early.
