Diablo 3 is not a new game by any stretch, but its arrival on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in the form of an Ultimate Evil Edition means we can take a moment to appreciate how the game has evolved to replace keyboard and mouse with a gamepad. Naturally, since we had a PC sitting around that is packing superior hardware to the Xbox One, comparing the two side-by-side seemed like a must.
The launch of the Xbox One was somewhat marred by video comparisons with the same game on the PlayStation 4 offering a higher resolution. Microsoft seems to have resolved these issues, as new games come to the console ready to play at 1080p and 60fps.
Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls – Ultimate Evil Edition runs on just about everything in the PC world, so it’s not exactly surprising to see that it runs well on the Xbox One. In a side-by-side compare, however, you see that in some cases the game actually looks nicer on the console.
Staring out with the home screen, where the characters are presented in their larger-than-life heroic poses, you can see that the Xbox One version of this representation is a lot cleaner. There are fewer visual artifacts, and there’s a lot more in the way of detail.
Since we can’t transfer a character from the PC to the Xbox One, and getting another Barbarian up to level 70 on the console is going to take a while, the rest of the comparison is mostly just observing textures and multi-enemy battles. You can see that both games look very similar when actually playing the game, but the PC version seems to offer brighter colors overall.
Regardless of which version you prefer, it looks like you’re going to have a great time. The console version offers a great experience with the gamepad, but if you’ve already made the investment on the PC it doesn’t seem like moving to the console is going to get you much more than a spot on the couch.
