The team at iFixit is back at it again, and this time the master tinkerers are taking a look at what can be found underneath the glass an aluminum shell of the brand new iPhone 5S. While much of the phone, inside and out, resembles last year's iPhone 5, there are some notable upgrades with Apple's latest smartphone, like a new camera sensor, a larger battery, and the device's unique fingerprint scanner.
Like previous models, the newest high-end iPhone isn't entirely easy to open up and take apart, but once inside the team was able to get a better look at the higher capacity battery — 1560 mAh over the iPhone 5's 1400 mAh battery — and the electronics behind the fingerprint scanner, as well as the device's new A7 64-bit processor. The markings on the updated rear camera indicate that the company has, once again, turned to Sony for photography and video recording duties.
While iFixit provides detailed instructions for a proper iPhone 5S teardown, we suggest that you leave it up to the experts, especially if you'd like to keep your brand new phone under warranty. The team did find the latest iPhone to be slightly more difficult to repair that the iPhone 5, due to the fingerprint scanner and some changes to the battery housing.
