It looks like summer is officially over, and not because there’s Pumpkin Spice everything all around you. The fall season for television is starting this week, and the combination of impressive new shows and returning veterans makes for a ridiculously long list of potentially great things to watch.
[h=3]Gotham: 9/22, 8PM on FOX[/h] It’s doing the Smallville thing, only this*time it’s for Batman. This show has a lot of promise already with David Mazouz as a young Bruce Wayne being thrust into the darkness. There’s a lot to like here, and it’s being given every opportunity to shine by Fox.
[h=3]Agents of SHIELD: 9/23, 9PM on ABC[/h] Flipping right from DC to Marvel, this second season of Agents of SHIELD needs to deliver in a big way. Season one was fun, but it took a really long time to heat up and get interesting. With the promise of integration with Avengers: Age of Ultron and the mid-season Agent Carter miniseries, it seems impossible for this season to be anything but awesome.
[h=3]The Flash: 10/7, 8PM on CW[/h] While it’s starting two weeks later than some of these heavier hitters — and it looks like the series is planning to ride on the coattails of CW’s Arrow to ensure it gets a good running start — everything we’ve seen about The Flash so far has been remarkably positive. It doesn’t hurt that the first episode leaked a couple of weeks back and drummed up a ton of excitement for it, but there’s every chance this could be fantastic.
[h=3]The Blacklist: 9/22, 10PM on NBC[/h] Shifting away from comic books entirely, The Blacklist has had some of the absolute best commercials leading into its release this week. In each one you see James Spader as an*intense, slightly psychotic anti-hero, and it absolutely works — at least for those 30 second spots. This is a good show to keep an eye on if you’re looking for something new to watch.
[h=3]Person of Interest: 9/23, 10PM on CBS[/h] While it’s not a guarantee, this feels like it could possibly be the last season of Person of Interest. Last season was intense and wrapped up a lot of loose ends, and while new problems were created in the process, it’s more than likely those will be resolved by the end of this season. If that’s the case, this show will end on a high note and be one of the better spy shows to have been created in the last decade. Either way, this season will be worth finishing.
There are so many other shows to mention, including comedies like The Big Bang Theory and Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and new thrillers like Scorpion and Sleepy Hollow. Whether you’re a DVR user or you tap into the powers of Hulu Plus, this will probably be a season where you’ll have to budget your time and pick your shows wisely.
