While the new patch improves performance, crashing persists and a new "blur effect" annoys gamers.
The first ever Battlefield 4 patch (on the client side) went live today and the first reports are mixed. Some players are reporting that some of the crashing issues have been fixed and that the game feels more responsive, while other say the crashing persists and the the patch brought even more problems.
So far the biggest complaint about the new patch is that it apparently doesn’t fix some of the crashing issues. One of the big new issues reported is a “new motion blur effect”, even if motion blur is turned off in the settings. You can see an example of the motion blur added by the patch below (click the image for larger version). The motion blur seems to happen randomly, every few seconds, regardless of what graphics card is used.

Players on the official Battlefield 4 forums are also reporting new issues, with some venting their frustration, saying things are even worse (link), claiming there are even more crashes now than before.
It also appears that some gamers now can’t join servers at all, getting the “game disconnected, try again” message, and the famous “Something went wrong” message as well.
Another issue that still persists after the patch is the sound bugs. The stuttering sound and sound loop crashes still appear to be present for most gamers.
The biggest issue, and one that most gamers are reporting besides the blur effect, is that the game seems to crash more often between rounds this time. From our own experience, we can confirm this has happened at least once post-patch.
One good news that many are reporting is that performance seems to be up across the board, with players, regardless of hardware configuration, getting a better frame rate and more responsive gameplay than before.
Just yesterday, DICE rolled out a new Battlefield 4 server patch, and they are currently working on another one. Personally, we’ve played 5 rounds, and while the game felt more responsive, it crashed twice. Which is better than before…
The 1.1 GB Battlefield 4 patch is available for everyone to download via Origin now. Have you played the game after the patch? Let us know your thoughts and feedback in the comments section.
