Chinese state media is against BF4, thinking it's a new form of aggression from the West.
The Battlefield 4 singleplayer campaign heavily features China, as both the bad and good guys, and the Chinese state media isn’t happy about it. We heard something similar from the Russians back in 2011 when BF3 was released.
According to Chinese military newspaper Zhongguo Guofangbao, Battlefield 4 is a “new form of cultural aggression” against China. The plot in the singleplayer campaign revolves around a rogue Chinese general, whom the American’s are sent in to capture. China is also featured as a multiplayer faction in Battlefield 4, making the first real appearance since 2005′s BF2.
The Chinese newspaper says that Battlefield 4 is “discrediting China’s image abroad and distorting the truth in an effort to mislead young people”.
Actually, if you’ve played the singleplayer campaign, you’d know that China isn’t cast in such a bad light. For example, the rogue general is actually on the run from China as they’re trying to get rid of corruption. The player actually works with the Chinese military to stop the general from carrying out his plan.
But we suppose it’s easier for China to play the victim who is under attack from the West and our video games and entertainment. It’s a common tactic used by such countries to stir up some national pride.
