La Liberté ou la Mort!
By Vasilis SiskosUbisoft has released another intriguing trailer for their upcoming game Assassin’s Creed Unity. This time, their trailer isn’t focused so much on action as it is about highlighting some vague but intriguing elements which Assassin’s Creed knows how to tease so well.
We dive into the trailer and go frame by frame in this Rewind Theater to pick apart all the cool tidbits and throw out some theories on where this game might be taking the series.
Feel free to watch the trailer above and follow with the timestamps below:
:12 - A wide shot of Paris, France around 1789 right before the French Revolution. Clearly a large city your Assassin will traverse.
:17 - Seems to be a Notre Dame Cathedral stain glass window
:20 - Working the fields. Probably where you'll run through as you search for chests.
:25 - Looking at a typical part of the city you traverse. Posts and walls to grab onto aplenty!
:27 - Ballroom dancing with the aristocracy. Considering the French Revolution was about the oppressed people of the time overthrowing the aristocracy, monarchy, and religious institutions, I imagine these folks won't see many more happy days.
:30 - Seems like the typical guard cluster from AC games. 3 weak guards plus one armored guard.
:33 - Priest, tends to be an Assassin enemy that aligns with Templars.
:35 - Seemingly poorer folks getting beaten up. Maybe side missions for your Assassin to help folks in need.
:38 - Dead guards during the spark of the revolution.
:40 - Guillotine and overthrown statue also showing that the French Revolution is probably in full swing...so to speak.
:44 - See Arno hang around like Assassins do.
:57 - Arno runs around showing off the game's new parkour mechanic.
:59 - Sign post on the front of the library potentially a poster you rip off to lower your wanted lever or maybe a buy it sign where you can buy up property.
1:05 - Jumping into buildings is now all real time and explorable. No animation just shuffling you from one side of the building to the next.
1:07 - Green robe then blue. Customizing your Assassin will be important in this game changing things down to the boots and gloves.
1:09 - Assassins know how to sexy jump.
1:13 - Huge crowds and protestors.
1:17 - Crazy person yelling on the corner. Maybe a type of guy you can pay of to lower your wanted level.
1:19 - Giant mass of people. All probably rendered in real time and you can walk through.
1:26 - Arno gets closer to his target.
1:33 - Arno in the rafters before the kill.
1:40 - Multiple ways to get through the crowds. Go up to the rafters, or hide in the crowds before making your kill.
1:43 - La Liberte ou la Mort. French Revolution slogan. Does this scene hint at a blurring of lines between Templars/Assassins? Is the priest/Templar helping carry on the French Revolution? To what end? Wouldn't the Assassin Order want to overthrow the aristocracy too?
1:47 - What seems to be an awesome Assassin tribunal. Is Arno in trouble? Is Arno trying to help the Templars? Are the Assassin's corrupt during this period of time?
1:56 - The new logo of ACU blending in a guillotine...so awesome!
With the game fast approaching, releasing on October 28 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, we can’t wait to see where this story goes. What are your theories on the trailer? Did you see anything cool in the trailer we didn’t touch on? Let us know in the comments below!
