Play-Asia funding SideQuest Studios' shmup (http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/qj/xbox/~3/116135058/92210)
http://img.qj.net/uploads/articles_module/92210/Play 20Asia.gif?592023Well, this is a weird, albeit unexpected, development in the games industry. Apparently, games retailer Play-Asia (http://xbox360.qj.net/tags/play-asia/3792) can now also be called a financial backer, as news from Develop Magazine indicates that funding for a Japanese shoot-em-up is coming from the import retailer.
Play-Asia is apparently funding the efforts of SideQuest (http://xbox360.qj.net/tags/sidequest/13779) Studios in creating a scrolling shooter called Soldner-X: Himmelssturmer, apparently a classic shmup brandishing widescreen HD graphics. While we've yet to hear anything about the game itself, it does presume that it'll make its presence known through online content providers like the PlayStation Network (http://ps3.qj.net/category/PlayStation-Network/cid/507) and Xbox Live (http://xbox360.qj.net/category/Xbox-Live/cid/526).
In the meantime, let us know what you think of this strange announcement from Develop. Do you think a major games retailer should be going into the business of funding games?
